Announcing Marrowlight: Fight. Die. Evolve.

It did not come with an army. It was the army.
Nine hundred years ago, something came up out of the deep places under Vaskaryn, and every man who fell before it stood up again behind it. Eleven kingdoms fell learning it could not be killed — because there was nothing there to kill. Only multitude.
So it was bound instead. Not with a spell — with a load-bearing structure. Seven living women, each shackled to one chain, each holding one aspect of the thing down beneath the bedrock. Wrath. Sorrow. Memory. Light. Silence. Hunger. Name.
They did not die. That was the cruelty nobody accounted for.
Marrowlight is our brutal action roguelite set in that drowned, ash-choked world. You are Orrin Vesk, the last Warden — a man whose entire office consists of walking the seal-sites, checking the chains, and killing an anchor when she finally breaks. You have opened forty-one doors in your life. You have closed forty-one.
The forty-second door is different. Behind it is a woman who is entirely, terribly sane — and who would like to have a conversation before you raise the blade.
The game
Horde survival, sharpened. Hundreds of enemies on screen at once. Auto-attacking weapons that evolve as you level. Fifteen to thirty minutes per run, and the last five are a wall of bodies. Six hand-built stages, each a different grave — flooded catacombs, an ash-city that burned for six years, a frozen siege plain, a tidal shelf of drowned shrines, a library grown into the rock, and the pit itself.
And the characters: six anchors remain in their vaults (the seventh is empty — that's your prologue). Reaching each one means surviving what guards her. Freeing her means choosing not to do the job you were raised to do. Every character you unlock is someone you were sent to kill. None of them are waiting quietly to be rescued.

G
Free an anchor and she gives you her memory — a full cinematic of the moment she chose what put her in the dark, kept in the Reliquary. Three endings wait at the far end of that. One of them is hidden, and it costs more than either of the others.

Over the next five weeks I'll be here every Wednesday: character spotlights on the anchors, a behind-the-scenes look at building the horde, and the full launch-eve briefing on October 28. Next week: Maren Veld, the First Link — the woman who designed the binding, took the first chain herself, and will spend your entire encounter explaining why you should close the door and walk away.
She's the smartest person in the game. She's probably right.
